The Infared landscape With a bit of storytelling too. Led by George Wilson.
Travel a short distance from Spearfish, SD (+/-35 minutes) to Bear Butte State Park. The Lakota call it Mathó Pahá (“Bear Mountain”) while the Cheyenne know it as Noahȧ-vose (“Giving Hill”) or Náhkȯhe-vose (“Bear Hill”). Regardless of the name, the geological entity most commonly known as Bear Butte is considered to be a very sacred site to Native Americans. It is considered a place where the earth meets the sky, a gateway to the spiritual world, and a site for prayer, meditation, and vision quests. At 1,200 feet above the plains – it is a high and beautiful place, but the beauty is distinctly rugged and hard edged.
In this session, we will combine both storytelling and infrared photography. You will learn the techniques for proper exposure, focusing and “seeing in infrared”. The participant will need one of two options to participate in this class – either an infrared converted camera or an infrared passing filter. An IR passing filter simply allows only the infrared spectrum to be seen by your camera. If you would like to know more about either option, please contact your instructor.
Includes a 1 hr. preconference Zoom class about infrared techniques in photography as well as a Lightroom Preset for both 720nm and 830nm to get you started on the right foot.
Participant Required Equipment: IR Converted Camera or Infrared Passing Filter (Hoya R72 or equal)
