"Wild Horses In The South Dakota Landscape" | 4:15 -7:15pm | Extra fee required | Description: The Horses of the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary live in a beautiful and unique landscape ideal for wild horse photography. The horses are unpredictable at best, so we will seek out the small bands and pairs of horses in the afternoon light on the Eastern and Southeastern slopes of Cheyenne Canyon and along the Cheyenne River. Shooting locations and the
horse numbers will vary and stops will be made for the best experience and best photographic opportunities.
The Sundance Herd is the most colorful and photogenic with a large mix of paints in the group. The Spanish herd range from a striking black stallion to sorrels and light buckskin mares. These striking horses are surrounded by stands of pine forests, hills dotted with sage and grasslands. We may even find them in the shadows of the petroglyphs and cliffs along the Cheyenne River.
George has been photographing these herds for more than 10 years and knows their favorite “hang outs”. Participants will learn about ideal shooting positions, the language of the ears and more as the finer details of equine photography are explored. In the field you will be provided information about wild horse herd dynamics as well as personal safety around the horses. George will share his pro-tips for the elements of design, composing, exposing and capturing on camera compelling landscape images. For the more advanced photographer, we will discuss elements of design and advanced exposure techniques to improve your
photographs.
